Mastering Teen Patti: Grasping the Fundamentals of Hand Ranking Terminology

Want to be really good at Teen Patti? The first thing to learn is which combinations of cards are good and which are bad. Knowing this helps you decide whether to bet more or quit during the game. We'll explain the common words used in the game and what they mean. Plus, we'll talk about how different versions of this online game change these card combinations.

Understanding Hand Rankings

Online games of Teen Patti are played with the standard deck of 52 cards and no Jokers. There are many different hand combinations, each with its own value. We have compiled a list of these combinations and they are ranked from the highest valued to the lowest. By understanding what forms these combinations can appear in, you will have more information to make better betting and folding decisions.

Trail or Trio or Set

The most powerful hand combination in Teen Patti is known as a "Trail," "Trio," or "Set." It consists of three cards of the same rank. This can mean three copies of fives, three copies of sixes or even three copies of Kings. Because of how statistically difficult it is to get a set in your betting hand, this hand is extremely desirable and holds the most strength in the game. If there are more than one players that hold a trio, each set has different values. Aces are the highest-valued cards in Teen Patti, followed by Kings, Queens and so forth down to two being the lowest-valued card. Therefore, if there are two players with trios, Player A has a trio of sevens and Player B has a Trio of Queens, Player B would be the winner because Queens are higher valued than sevens.

Pure Sequence or Straight Flush

Given how difficult it is to draw a trail, trio, or set, the next most desirable hands are what we call pure sequences or straight flushes. These are formed by three consecutive cards of the same suit. For instance, if Player A has six, seven, and eight Spades, they would have what we call a pure sequence. A straight flush is similar but includes an ace. If you were to have the Ace, 2, and 3 of diamonds in your hand you would have a straight flush. This is also the same if you have A-K-Q.

Sequence or Run

A Sequence or Run is when you have three cards in a row, even if they’re not all the same suit. For instance, if you have 4 of spades, 5 of hearts, and 6 of clubs, that’s a Sequence or Run. It’s not as powerful as some other combinations, but it’s still a good hand in Teen Patti.

Colour or Flush

In Teen Patti, a Colour or Flush refers to having three cards of the same suit, regardless of their numerical order. For instance, if a player has the 2, 7, and King of diamonds, they will have a Colour or Flush in diamonds. Similarly, having the 4, Jack, and Ace of hearts would also constitute a Colour or Flush in hearts. In the case of multiple players having a Flush, the one with the highest card wins.

Pair

In Teen Patti, a pair is formed when a player holds two cards of the same rank. If multiple players have a pair, the highest-ranking pair wins. For example, if a player has both the 5 of spades and the 5 of hearts, they possess a pair of 5s. Similarly, having the King of diamonds and the King of clubs would also constitute a pair.

High Card

The high card is the lowest-ranking hand in Teen Patti, where no specific combination is formed. In this case, the winner is determined by the highest card in the hand. It's important to note that relying on the high card as a winning hand should be considered a last-resort strategy.

Different Versions of Teen Patti

Mini Flush

In this online variation of Teen Patti, only certain combinations count as winning hands. Besideshigh card, flush, straight, straight flush, and royal flush, other combinations don’t count as winning hands.

Muflis (Lowball)

In Muflis, which translates to "poor" or "broke" in Hindi, the hand rankings are reversed. The lowest-ranking hand, which is the high card, becomes the strongest possible hand in this variation.

AK47

AK47 refers to a specific card combination in Teen Patti that includes the Ace, King, 4, and 7, regardless of their suits. This combination holds significant strength and value in the game. In this variation, Aces, Kings, 4s, and 7s serve as wild cards and can be used as substitutes for any other card in the deck.

The rules and rankings of AK47 may differ depending on the specific Teen Patti variation being played. In some cases, AK47 may be the highest-ranking hand, while in others, it may be ranked just below certain combinations like a royal flush or a straight flush.

Joker

Also known as "Fixed Joker," this variation involves designating specific cards (one or more) as wild cards before the game commences. For instance, the 2 of Hearts may be chosen as the Joker. The chosen card retains its original rank and suit but can also act as a wild card to complete combinations.
